Of course, we, who live at Lake Whitney, have known this all along. But it is still a well-kept secret up in the DFW metroplex and down in Houston. Property and homes at Lake Whitney are much more affordable than other lakes around Texas.

Located between Ft. Worth and Waco, Lake Whitney is an inviting lake community with more to offer than a boat launch. You will find exciting fishing opportunities, safe boating waters, affordable homes and a lovely small town filled with delightful shops and boutiques.

Begin your exploration of Lake Life at Lake Whitney by coming down for a visit. Check in to Lake Homes Realty at Lake Whitney (5528 FM933) across from the White Bluff Resort gate. White Bluff Resort offers condos, log cabins and two RV parks for visitors. Emily Morris can give you more information about arranging an overnight stay. Shop Downtown Lake Whitney

Browse for ladies wear at several shops, gift items, holiday decor, farmhouse furniture and decor, as well an antiques and collectibles. Oh, yes, you can also find a local winery shop in downtown Whitney. Be sure to check on the shop websites for hours as many stores only keep weekend hours. Here are a few of the Whitney shops.

The Farmhouse Store. 215 N. Brazos Street. You’ll recognize it by the giant Farm House sign on the side of the building. Crystal Stewart opened her shop in 2020, featuring custom furniture, handmade furniture and upscale Farmhouse-style decor and accessories.

A Daughter’s Dream. 201 N. Colorado Street. Just a block over from The Farmhouse Store. Teresa Wyatt has offered a beautiful selection of women’s clothing, handbags, jewelry and accessories for nearly four years. Gift items for all occasions and splendid holiday decor round out her offerings. But a big feature is Teresa’s knack for beautifully wrapping each purchase, making every shopper feel special. Plus she adds a homebaked cookie!

Juniper Cove Winery. 101 W. Washington Street. The tasting room for this local vineyard opened in 2020 and met with great success. It offers wine pairing events, wine tastings, and also some light sandwiches along with its wine selections.

The Rustic Heart. 108 W. Washington Street. This eclectic shop offers a wide variety of clothing for ladies and children, as well as decor items, gifts and antiques. Truly a fun shop in which to browse as you work your way around downtown Lake Whitney.

Loretta’s Stitch N Stuff. 112A W. Washington. Loretta opened her full-service quilting shop about two years ago with her granddaughter. She offers a beautiful variety of quality fabrics, notions and all things for quilting. She also does long-arm quilting on site.

July Update: White Bluff Resort Revitalization

White Bluff Resort Spring Update

It is spring here at White Bluff Resort on Lake Whitney. The bluebonnets are starting to bloom — renewing our landscape and our hearts with their beauty. White Bluff is also well into its renewal as a superior golf and lake resort — a commitment by our property owners and our POA.

Lodging.

One of three log cabins available for rental.

Our three log cabins, on the New Course at the Rustic Pool, are again available for rental. They have been updated and are already being reserved for visitors.

Our fully reburbished condos available for guest lodging.

Our condos, across from the Old Course Pro Shop, will be ready soon — furniture, new mattresses/box springs are being moved in.

Dining.

The New Course Clubhouse houses both a Pro Shop and the new Mulligan’s.

The former Trophy Grill on the New Course has been renamed to Mulligan’s and will be opening soon. Total renovation — from the kitchen to the bar to the dining area and the outside seating area — has been completed. A kiosk (snack bar) has been created for golfers as a convenience outside the dining area. New tables, chairs and dining booths have been installed, along with a red and green tartan plaid sofa and arm chairs in front of the fireplace. (The dining room will now seat 70.) Three flat-screen TVs will be installed. The bar has been extended and a new inlaid hickorywood bar top put in place. A pizza oven has been installed and I hear we can enjoy pizza made from a propriety recipe shared only with us. Can’t wait! Arcis Golf, the management company selected by our POA, is in the process of interviewing candidates for management of Mulligan’s. In addition, the restrooms have been total renovated and updated.

Marina.

White Bluff’s Marina has continued to be open. Slip leases are being renewed and additional covered slips are still available.

Lighthouse Restaurant and Bar

The very popular Lighthouse deck has been repaired and stabilized. All railings have been replaced. Work has begun on building the new bandstand — folks here look forward to Friday night music there. Arcis Golf is addressing a plan for re-opening the Lighthouse facilities.

Two Golf Courses

We continue to receive detailed updates from our POA regarding the progress on renovating and improving our two golf courses. The New Course is substantially done and work has been progressing well on the Old Course. We have been able to play the New Course during its renovation. Both courses will be closed for the summer to allow for the finalization of the work — tee leveling, fairway aerification, sodding, fertilizing, chemical applications, irrigation repairs, drainage projects on numerous holes and growing in 39 greens.

Our Golf Course Superintendent, Gregg Fjelland, shared this comment: “I hope everyone understands that we want to give all property owners the best possible scenario when we open both courses in late summer. There will be many moving parts this summer and by closing for a short period, we can get our large to-do list completed.”

He also offers a special thanks to the many property owner/volunteers who initially helped get the courses cleaned up after the long shut-down by the developer. Just a reminder, we — the property owners — now own our resort and have elected a superior POA Board of Directors to lead us and the work that is being done here at White Bluff.

White Bluff POA — New Office Location

Just an update that the White Bluff POA office has officially moved into the Administration Building within White Bluff. It is no longer in the building across from Security.

Welcome to White Bluff Resort

Located about an hour south of the DFW Metroplex, White Bluff Resort is a well-kept secret in North Texas. It is privately owned by the property owners and is professionally managed by a well-qualified company that specializes in resort and golf course management.

It spans approximately 3,500 wooded acres, with generous frontage and a marina on Lake Whitney. Here are some of the features that draw folks to White Bluff.

NOTE: White Bluff Resort was acquired from the developer in September 2018. Many improvements and updates are underway. The New Course has reopened with temporary greens, as the new, rebuilt greens are settling in for play. The Old Course will be receiving major upgrading as well. Other amenities are being updated and will open soon.
